Each year on 10 October, World Mental Health Day draws attention to the importance of mental health as an essential part of overall health and quality of life, and to its role in enabling individuals to learn, work and engage positively with those around them.
This year’s World Mental Health Day is observed under the theme, “Listening to Life Stories: Real Voices, Real Change,” highlighting the importance of listening to people’s lived experiences, understanding their needs, and ensuring that their voices help shape mental health support and care services.
Within the university environment, mental health is an important part of the student experience. Education extends beyond academic attainment to creating a supportive environment in which students can learn and grow, express their needs, and seek support when they need it.
In this context, Benha National University emphasises the importance of raising awareness of mental health, fostering a culture of open communication and understanding, and addressing the stigma surrounding mental health challenges. These efforts contribute to a more supportive and informed university environment that values students and supports both their academic and personal development.
On World Mental Health Day, listening with care, respecting different experiences, and offering support when needed remain essential steps towards building a society that is more aware, understanding and attentive to the needs of its people.
